Happy Halloween 2009!

The post inwhich I bitch about the time change.

Landon woke me up at 6:40 this morning to tell me that he had to watch Tarzan. I don't care who you are, in this house, there is NOTHING that has to be done at 6:40am! I am dreading, really DREADING the time change this weekend. I don't even want to see what it looks like at 5:30 in the morning. I remember last year when we set the clocks back, it took him only 3 days or so before we had adjusted his schedule to the "new time." He is older, more active, and more independent this year. That combined with a 5:30 wake up and Mama is NOT excited for the weekend.
Brynne on the other hand would sleep until 9 every morning if it weren't for her brother screaming outside her door. Every day he yells at me from the kitchen because I tell him every damn day "NO, you may not have fruit snacks. It is 7 o'clock in the morning, You may have waffles or oatmeal only. NO fruit snacks!" To which he replies (very loudly and right outside of Brynne's door) "NO MOM, I want fruit snacks, I don't care Mama, You being a bad Mom." It is a daily battle and has been since he began to sleep in his big boy bed. He is calling me a Bad Mama in the way that I call him a bad boy if he takes a toy from Brynne. So I doubt if he really thinks I am a bad mama...I have years to perfect that one!
On the weekends when daddy isn't golfing is home it doesn't bother me. Travis is an early bird and is more than happy to occupy Landon while Brynna and I sleep the wee hours away. I even thought about putting the baby gate up in his doorway to "encourage" him to stay in his room. I must have thought that one up in the middle of a sleepy, incoherent moment. Landon has scaled the baby gate, as if it were only 2 inches tall, since he was 16 months old. That would do me no good. Sigh. Guess I will wait until Sunday and see what happens when "6:30" is really "5:30."
Can I just go ahead and say, WHY the hell do we even have the time change? Exactly what purpose does it serve? I wish they would do away with it so I didn't have to spend all week worrying that I will never sleep in until 7 again....
Any other moms HATE the time change like I do??

Carving Pumpkins 2009

Last night we carved our Halloween pumpkins. Landon was SO excited alllll day long and kept asking me every 5 minutes "Mom, when are we gonna cut da punkins?" I bought a pumpkin carving kit at the grocery store yesterday morning and Landon was immediately thrilled with the new set of "crewdrivers" that Mama had picked out. He couldn't wait to show Daddy and drove me crazy all day! We waited until the kids got up from their naps, and daddy got home from work before we got down to business.
Just up from their naps, and ready to get started!~

Mama helped Brynne carve her pumpkin...

and Daddy helped Landon.

Getting started~

I love this picture. Landon picked out the design he wanted on his pumpkin from the stencil book. He picked a really complicated design that Daddy was worried about trying. We kept asking Landon which one, hoping he would pick a different design, and he kept picking the same one over and over. You can see in the picture that he is pointing at the one he chose, and his face shows how serious he was!~

Cleaning out the pumpkin seeds~

Messy work~
Brynne only scooped out a few handfuls. She didn't like the slimy insides and kept saying "No."
I am admittedly a horrible pumpkin carver. I don't bother with the stencils and opt instead for the classic "2 eyes, one nose, one mouth. " However this year Brynne and I made one minor adjustment. Look closely....this wouldn't be sweet Brynna's pumpkin without a bow!
This little guy was SO excited and couldn't wait to use the carving tools.

Our finished pumpkins (:
The kids have been so excited about Halloween and trick-or-treating at Grandma and Grandpa's house. I hope they always have such joy and excitement in their lives. I can't wait for Saturday to get them all dressed up in their costumes. Fun times!!

Another trip to a pumpkin patch!

When Daddy got off work last night we took the kids to the local pumpkin patch. They had fun running amongst many acres of vines and pumpkins. I forgot my good camera at home, but did get some really good shots from my Canon Power Shot. The sun was BRIGHT and harsh at that time of day so a lot of the pictures didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I did get some great pictures of the kids and have already ordered my enlargements for the house!

I'm begining to see a pattern...

I was sitting out back watching the kids when it occurred to me that I was witnessing the same pattern of play I have blogged about before. That's right waaay back in May!

And, May 06, 2009

I don't know what's worse. That it's been 6 months and we still don't have grass in the backyard, or that Brynne would rather play with trucks than dolls.
Happy Thursday everyone! The weekend is almost here!

Like Father, Like Son

I've been fighting an infection for the past few days and have been feeling really, really, lousy. On top of that, the antibiotic I am taking wipes me out! I feel groggy, and can barely keep my eyes open. This is not good with two toddlers running around. Needless to say I have 'let things go' the past few days. The sink is full of dishes. There are crushed pretzels all over my carpet. The kids have worn their pajamas all day for 2 days straight. I lay on the couch all day and listen to the kids play, then fight, then argue, then sing, and play some more, only getting off the couch if I need to be involved. This morning I dozed off for what was only 2 minutes, before I sat straight up in a panic realizing there was too much silence and not enough noise! The gruesome twosome had headed out into "Mansland" to see what trouble they could stir up in Daddy's garage.
This is what I found...
OhDearLord! Landon moved the cooler up against Daddy's dirt bike so he could climb up and pretend to ride. My heart beat a little faster as I saw my tiny boy sitting all by himself on that big bike! But I also couldn't help but smile.
He just wants so badly to do everything Daddy does. Travis and I have had the "NO dirt bikes for my kids" discussion many times, even before they were born. I don't support this particular hobby and feel like it is much to dangerous for any child. Looks like Landon might have a different idea!
Hey, atleast he had enough sense to wear his helmet!

Oh, and you didn't think that Brynne wouldn't be involved in something Landon was doing didya?? Little girl had a pretend ride of her own in big brothers truck.

Sorry for the mess in your garage Daddy. But Mama had a sick day!
*Updated, after reading over this post I realized what a nice coincidence it was that Landon was wearing his dirt bike pajamas. LOL Makes for a much cuter photo.
